about
This song is a difficult beast to say the least. Lyrically it is very intense, and the original version was recorded with a simple droning strings arrangement and plenty of percussion, which was almost free form in some parts. It did develop "micro grooves" around certain phrases, but generally, the original version was not really workable from a structural sense.
For this song, the lead strings part was redone with a live recording of the part played on an analog synth. The drums were reworked somewhat. A simple kick part was added which builds up in the chorus, the hi hats were attended to, and some attempt at mildly taming the loose toms was made. After this, a fat, distorted bass guitar part was added, and a lead guitar part was then also added. The lead guitar part has brought out a great melody, which fills out the chorus nicely.
By a strange rhythmic co-incidence of some background noise in an adjoining room, a special sample loop was spotted during mixdown, recorded and then added in the chorus to resemble fast closed hi hats - let's just say it's a very "clean" sample! This lends a great feel to building up the chorus. So musically, this song is almost sounding like a sweet pop song trying to escape from the tortuous grasp of the somewhat bent percussion.
lyrics
LUSCIOUS
My heart, an hourglass
Kiss for an empty table
Kiss for the masquerade
The lost time
The last words ever spoken
Were yours
Your luscious broken eyes
The last time
But it never ends
Your voice, my blood and I
Fall like a city on melting ice
Into your...
To the end
One more kiss
Now words are an enemy
My whole army's now disarmed
The cold things feel the same
And all the words mean nothing
The only place to hide
Your luscious broken eyes
Into your...
Leave you with nothing
I have nothing more to give
(Twist like sin
I lost something
I lost myself)
Into your
