Mercy 03:24
MERCY She said "Come to me Come to me I'm in the sky" "I'll be your body I'll be your shelter I'll be your eyes When you - When you have none" She said "Come to me Come to me I'm in the sky" "I'll be your love I'll be your mercy I'll be salvation When you have none" © Copyright 2007

GIRL WITH NO NAME I'm terrified Falls through my hands Like water from heaven I cannot keep The noise you make A ghost I've heard? It makes me shake It's quite absurd I'm terrified Force myself To speak the name I cannot breathe I'm terrified Give my life To miss the place I cannot leave The noise you make Disturbs the air It makes me shake It’s quite unfair I'm terrified Force myself To speak the name I cannot breathe The noise you make A ghost I've heard? It makes me shake It's quite absurd © Copyright 1990

New Day 03:36
NEW DAY From me time will strip you away And cast me in the sea That breathes your name And the life from me And like everything of which I'm certain This memory will decay But left unbled will rise up And slowly smother me And the barrel is always clean And the sun will rise And the seasons will pass me by And life is what it seems © Copyright 2004

LIFE IN CLOUDS Don't see me As the help that never comes Don't see me As indifferent to your daughter And your sons Through all the years That have gathered us I'm the one standing With open arms And however weary... Don't see me As running from your love There is nothing else that I can say - Don't see me As running from your love © Copyright 2010

Empty 04:03
EMPTY We can never be together We can never be apart Now all time flows against us And the sun burns up our hearts Our future remains unwritten These tears we've shed like skies Like a million angels burning The phosphor blinds my eyes We're unchallenged by the ages A token pillar salts our love There will never be an ending While we drink each other dry There will never be an ending We're uplifted by the stars We've struggled over the horizon We've drowned all life in the sea We've lost all grip on logic We've never been so empty © Copyright 2004

Europa 03:46
EUROPA To far horizons And distant shores We’ve travelled together My needs ignored This temptation is timeless It’s a version of love A tenderness longed for For we’re not undeserving thereof A home to return to With surrendered controls I want to worship your body Not empty our souls I’m looking for peace here I want your embrace Not harvested resentment Nor words bitter of taste Tonight is our last now Together like this Drown me in your body Breathe me your kiss Drown me in your body Breathe me your kiss Drown me in your body Breathe me your kiss

about

EXJCCD0002. Part 1 (tracks 1 to 6) of the follow-up album for the 2010 debut, "A Private Encyclopaedia". "Life In Clouds" (part 1) features 6 original tracks, including the single "Mercy", which debuted as the band’s first music video @ youtu.be/hvT96JcTaIo

“Life In Clouds” continues to see The Jesus Cleaver moving in many musical directions at once, whilst traversing familiar dark romantic songscapes. The current single, “Mercy”, opens the album with darkwave/synthpop sensibilities, complete with lead vintage synth duelling with a bass guitar melody.

“Girl With No Name” takes the listener down the rabbit hole in a bass-heavy synth frenzy. The anthemic “New Day” refrains with the inexorable lyrics “Love will come and love will go”, to an equally inescapable bass guitar line and heavy percussion.

The title track, “Life In Clouds”, opens a deeply personal emotional vein, tapped in minimalist, ethereal styling. The post-industrial “Empty” follows, wrapped in circuit-bent guitar power, courtesy of fellow Brisbane act, Blu Blak Truk. Recording the vocals for this track saw founding singer/songwriter John P Shea admitted to hospital shortly awards, undergoing urgent abdominal surgery. “Needless to say”, explained Shea, “I now have a rather special relationship with this song”, having delivered the required “sense of command” in the vocals, and then endured the aftermath.

The closing track (for part 1), “Oramics Interlude”, is a humble tribute to British synth pioneer, Daphne Oram, without whom there would be no BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and thus no Doctor Who theme song. The track was composed on the Oramics emulator, and highlights the expressiveness of Oram’s remarkable creation, the original of which is currently being restored and cloned at The Science Museum in London (visit daphneoram.org for further information).

Overall, “Life In Clouds” represents a deeper, more textured offering, with a stronger and more confident delivery. The second part of the album is expected to be released in 2013, once Shea completes a self-imposed vocal rest period following his recent health incident.

UPDATE: Track 7, "Europa" added for part 2. This track is the second single from the album.

More tracks coming in 2013.

NOTE: any new tracks (i.e. the remainder of part 2) delivered free if you buy the digital album now.
